Garmin advances dive safety technology with revolutionary Descent S1 Smart Buoy

Garmin has made a revolutionary addition to its Garmin dive lineup with the  Descent™ S1 Buoy, designed to help strengthen diver communication and enhance peace of mind for divers and crew. Using Garmin’s unique SubWave™ sonar networking, the buoy integrates seamlessly with Garmin dive computers to help crew members on the surface track and monitor up to eight divers—and exchange preset messages with those using a compatible dive computer and Descent T2 transceiver. For increased situational awareness, connected divers can also see the distance and direction to the buoy and receive clear guidance to help them know where to surface1.

“Garmin is focused on creating essential products designed to help keep divers safe. The groundbreaking Descent S1 buoy adds game-changing communication, navigation, and safety capabilities between divers and their surface crew, making it the next must-have piece of kit for dive teams, charter operations, instructors, and more.” –Susan Lyman, Garmin Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing

Advancing the diver experience

  • Find my buoy: Connected divers can see the distance and direction back to the buoy – whether it’s tethered in place, on the anchor line of a boat, or on the boat’s tag line during a drift dive – and use it to navigate back to the buoy2.

  • Diver-to-surface messaging: When using a connected Descent dive computer, divers can tell those on the surface where they are, where they’re going, if they need to come up early, and their remaining decompression time1.

  • Extended diver-to-diver messaging: While beneath the surface, the buoy extends the range of diver-to-diver messaging capabilities. Divers with compatible Descent dive computers can exchange preset messages with one another up to 100 meters away1.

  • Post-dive review: After returning to the surface, view underwater heatmaps on the Garmin Dive smart-device app to see where explorations took place.

Revolutionizing the diving experience from the surface

Topside crews can better track divers below the surface when using both the Descent S1 Buoy and the Garmin Dive app.

  • Remote diver monitoring: Track tank pressures, diver location and depth, and more when divers are equipped with a compatible dive computer and Descent T2 transceiver. Automatic alerts can also let topside crew members know when a diver’s tank pressure is low2.

  • Surface-to-diver messaging: Topside crews can exchange preset messages with connected Descent dive computers underwater, allowing them to communicate with divers and send out a diver recall if the dive needs to be cut short.

  • Diver location tracking: Track the approximate range to each diver in the SubWave sonar network—up to 100 meters away from the buoy2.

Rugged and connected

The compact Descent S1 Buoy weighs just 2 pounds and has an IPX8 water rating to 10 meters. The rechargeable lithium battery provides up to 15 hours of battery life so it can be used during a typical weekend dive trip before needing to be recharged. To keep divers connected to their topside crew, the buoy uses Wi-Fi® technology to wirelessly connect to the Garmin Dive app, up to 60 meters away.

The Descent S1 Buoy has a suggested retail price of PHP 153,990 and is available now for pre-order in Garmin Brand Stores, Garmin Specialty Stores. Interested buyers may also reach Fran So at +63 917 599 0993 to order.

Garmin Launches Next-Gen Smartwatches and Heart Rate Monitor for Performance-Driven Athletes

Garmin has announced three new performance products designed to help athletes reach new personal bests: the Forerunner® 570 and Forerunner® 970 GPS running and triathlon smartwatches, and the HRM 600, a premium heart rate monitor that delivers advanced data and versatility. These next-generation devices work seamlessly together, offering new ways to train, track, and recover with precision—all designed with Garmin’s hallmark durability and athlete-first innovation.

Together, these launches expand the Garmin ecosystem for performance-driven athletes, offering richer data insights, greater workout flexibility, and smarter recovery metrics, whether you're gearing up for a race or fine-tuning their performance in the gym.

Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970: Built to Go the Distance

Featuring Garmin’s brightest AMOLED display yet, the new Forerunner smartwatches deliver brilliant visuals on the run. Athletes can access advanced training tools, health stats and smart features with ease.

To help athletes achieve their goals, the Forerunner 570 includes advanced running metrics like training status, wrist-based running power and running dynamics, acute load, training effect, performance condition, VO2 max, and more. Every morning, athletes can see their training readiness score based on sleep quality, recovery, and training load so they know whether it’s a good day to go hard or take it easy.

Runners can also view the daily suggested workout that is made specifically for them and that adapts after every run to take into account their performance and recovery, or use Garmin Coach training plans for running, cycling, and strength to train for their next event. When running outdoors, athletes can execute their race day strategy using PacePro™ – grade-adjusted pacing guidance – and train with confidence knowing that SatIQ™ technology and multi-band GPS will provide superior positioning accuracy while optimizing battery life.

Outside of a run, Forerunner 570 can track key health and wellness stats, including sleep score, Body Battery™ energy monitoring, stress, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and more to help athletes keep an eye on their health. Featuring a 47mm case size, Forerunner 970 is available in popular color options like carbon gray DLC titanium with a black/translucent whitestone band, titanium with a whitestone/translucent amp yellow band and soft gold titanium with a french gray/translucent indigo band. Available beginning June 16 for PHP 45,690.

Order your new Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970 smartwatch via official Garmin Stores online in Kinetic, Shopee, and Lazada. The watches will also be made available in-store in all Garmin Brand Stores and Garmin Specialty Stores starting June 16.

What’s new in Garmin Connect

With a Forerunner 570 or Forerunner 970, athletes receive access to the following features in Garmin Connect, including Garmin Triathlon Coach training plans, custom multisport workouts and past ovulation estimates. Garmin announces the Descent G2 watch-style dive computer

Garmin has unveiled the all new Descent™ G2, a rugged watch-style dive computer with features to help divers explore both their underwater and topside worlds. With support for multiple dive modes – ranging from technical diving to freediving – plus popular features like a dive readiness score and Garmin’s suite of health, fitness1 and connected features, the newest dive computer is ready for the next adventure. It also features an eco-friendly design with parts made with recycled ocean-bound plastics and up to 10 days of battery life in smartwatch mode to keep the explorations going.

“Whether you’re a novice diver or more seasoned, the Descent G2 is designed to grow with you—even into tech diving. And with popular features for life above the water like dive readiness, 24/7 heart rate, advanced sleep monitoring and more, there is no limit as to what this watch can do before, during and after your next dive.”

–Dan Bartel, Garmin Vice President of Global Consumer Sales

Dive-ready design

Featuring a 1.2” AMOLED display, the Descent G2 makes it easier to read more data at a glance—even while underwater. Designed with environmental responsibility in mind, 100% of the plastic used to make the watch’s housing, bezel, and buttons come from recycled ocean-bound plastics. The rugged material is complemented by a strong sapphire lens, 100-meter dive-rated case and leak-proof buttons.

The Descent G2 is also available in two colorways – a popular black and a colorful paloma or shell pink – and is compatible with QuickFit™ bands so divers can easily change their band color to match the style of their gear.

Prepare for the next dive

Using the dive readiness feature on the Descent G2, divers can gain insights into how lifestyle factors like sleep, stress, recent exercise, and jet lag can affect their body’s overall preparedness to dive. A higher readiness score may suggest it’s time to dive in, while a lower score may be reason to consider using a higher conservatism setting or choose an easier dive.

Recreational dive features

The Descent G2 offers versatile dive tracking, in-dive navigation, and enhanced readability for a better underwater experience.

  • Multiple dive modes: Track all types of diving, including single and multi-gas (including nitrox and trimix), closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) and gauge.

  • In-dive compass: Navigate below the waterline with a built-in 3-axis compass.

  • Big numbers mode: View critical data, like no-decompression limit (NDL), time, and depth thanks to a simplified screen and larger text.

Freedive features

The Descent G2 also comes with freedive features that provide customizable alerts and detailed analytics to enhance training and performance.

  • Dynamic apnea mode: Track pool dives while training for the next freedive.

  • Apnea alerts: Reduce the need to look at the watch during a dive by receiving audible and haptic alerts for custom depth, interval, direction, target depth and neutral buoyancy.

  • Variometer: Receive audible and haptic alerts based on descent or ascent rates.

  • Velocity chart: Log velocity and review descent and ascent rates, as well as hang time, throughout the dive in the Garmin Dive™ smartphone app.

All-day wearability

For life above the water, the Descent G2 includes Garmin’s suite of health and wellness, training, and connected features.

  • Health and wellness monitoring: Track heart rate 24/7; keep tabs on daily steps, calories burned and floors climbed; receive a full breakdown of light, deep and REM sleep stages as well as a sleep score and advanced sleep insights; gain a deeper understanding of overall health with heart rate variability (HRV) status; track stress, hydration and respiration; and monitor Pulse Ox2 while awake or asleep.

  • Training insights: Stay active with dozens of preloaded sports apps for cycling, open-water swimming, strength training and more; track intensity minutes, VO2 max, heat and altitude acclimation and recovery time; follow Garmin Coach training plans that adapt day-to-day based on performance, recovery and health metrics; and view an entire week of daily suggested workouts that adapt after every run or bike ride.

  • Connectivity tools: When paired with a compatible Apple® or Android™ smartphone, receive emails, texts and alerts; get a complete look at health and fitness stats in Garmin Connect™; workout with peace of mind with incident detection, assistance and LiveTrack3; and download watch faces, data fields and apps from the Connect IQ™ store right to the watch.

Available now on the official Garmin PH website or online through Kinetic, Lazada, or Shopee, the Descent G2 has a suggested retail price of P45,490.00
